For a better Malaysian future
In the eyes of some Malaysian "Malays", the Malaysian Indians and Chinese are "pendatang" (Immigrants). They insist that the country must only belong to the Malays, some even say we're like the Jews that migrated into Palestine to take their resources. I agree that many of our fore fathers who came to Malaya with the British (willingly/ forcefully) are migrants, but we are 3rd generation Malaysians who cannot claim India/China to be our motherland. If the fact that our race was not here to begin with is the reason why we're not fully accepted as citizens of this country with equal rights, than by right all of us are africans and none of us have rights to this land. Men migrated from the cradle of life (in Africa) millions of years ago to find food and a living. Regardless there are even many written facts that say we were already here before the British step foot into this country, bringing riches and trade from Indian and China and making Malaya a bustling and busy transit point between the east and west..

Indians and Chinese in this country are not fighting to take land or properties from the Malays, we only ask for equal opportunity to build this country together, to make it a prosperous region with less range of wealth between the poor and the rich. By limiting the talent and the intelligence this country produces just because of racial issues, everyone is losing out. The Malays say if their privileges are taken away, they will be the poor of this nation. My question is why? I think they have become very comfortable with what they get for free and thus many of them are taking things too easy (not all, I've seen some very hardworking and successful Malay people without government help also) , in turn it's slowing down the progress of this prosperous nation. Right now we're settling for a pie that's worth 1 Ringgit instead of one worth 1,000 Ringgit; even one percent of the potential wealth is more than the total wealth now.

In fact, if the special treatment was taken away the Malay community will also wake up and become a force to reckon with economically. They have the advantage of being the most populated group of people and have the major buying power. Why is our nation now resorting to making under par product (quality wise) and specific sanctions (example: the taxes on imported cars) so that we can compete with other developed nations? Why can't we make quality products that compete with developed nations? The method of the current government is an effective one, but it's not the best and not the only way. We have all the resources to be the next Japan/Korea/Hong Kong or even our neighboring country Singapore. I'm not even going to go into the corruption and cronyism allegations that are being thrown at the current government, I'll get to that later.

My suggestion to the government and the people: Let try out a new approach with the enormous talent pool we have in this country. Many major university in  the world holds outstanding Malaysian student who either stays on in the country he/she studies in or come back and works for a major non-malaysian multinational company. Why can't we make use of these bright stars by giving them equal opportunity to start-up a quality company in Malaysia. Many only-Bumiputra restrictions hinder them from progressing as a lot of opportunities are not available to them. Lucrative industries in the country are being put under strict bumiputra majority quota prerequisites and such.

If the current government is not going to take this chance to trust the abilities of Malaysians than we shall give the mandate to a government that is more willing to put their trust on the talents of it's citizens. I know a lot of Malay friends who feel there should be an equal opportunity for everyone and they are just gaining in number day by day. They too feel that this would give them a more competitive mindset and take their game to the next level. What's a democratic government who doesn't reflect the needs and wants of the majority of it's citizens? Cheer to all Malaysians and peace out ^_^
